Pool Table, Home Bar and Game Room Maintenance

Our pool tables and their matching collections are designed and constructed to be lifetime purchases. Therefore, in order to optimize your billiard table’s play and performance for many years and generations, there are a few simple maintenance tips that you can follow to bring greater longevity to your pool table.  Likewise, the matching furniture needs similar TLC.

Pool Tables

The three main parts of your pool table that will need occasional maintenance and care are the felt, wood and leather pockets.

Felt

Our 21-ounce standard felt and 24-ounce Simonis billiard cloth should be brushed with the brush provided in your deluxe accessory kit. Lighter felt colors require more frequent brushings as dust will show up more easily than on darker felt varieties. For proper felt cleaning, you should brush the cloth along the nap of the fibers and not against them.   Vacuuming should be used sparingly because it is harder on the felt. Vacuum the felt along the nap but make sure to only use light suction and never use the vacuum brush head or any other vacuum ad-on as they are too harsh for the billiard cloth. To minimize the amount of vacuuming, a pool table cover should always be used to prevent the majority of dust from settling on the felt. The average life of the felt is around 7 years but this longevity could be shorter or longer depending on usage and maintenance.

Wood

Your billiard table is made of beautiful American hardwoods. Just like any piece of fine furniture in your home that you cherish, our pool tables need the same care and wood maintenance. A simple damp cloth will be able to remove fingerprints but take care not to get the felt damp. Make sure to wipe away any moisture with a dry, non-abrasive cloth. Excessive water and other liquids can be some of the most destructive things for wood so make sure you always wipe away any spilt liquid from the wood surface as soon as possible. We do not recommend using oils and polishes on a regular basis as some can be damaging if they come near the billiard cloth and railings. Avoid using any cleaning products that have stripping agents or are alcohol based so that you can prolong the beautiful finish of your pool table. Everyday care should include dustings.

Leather pockets

Our leather pockets have been designed to specifically match your pool table. Because of the manufacturing process, the leather will be stiffer at first and then soften with age and use. Leather moisturizers can be used to maintain proper hydration of the pool table pockets. Apply to leather evenly with a clean, soft cloth using circular strokes. Wipe off all residue and buff gently. Take extra care to keep the moisturizer away from the felt, wood, rails and any part of the pocket that the billiard ball may contact. You do not want the ball to pick up these moisturizing products and then carry them to the felt on the pool table. The leather pockets will also become softer with use from the oil in your hands but make sure that when touching the pockets you do not have any abrasive chemicals that could damage the leather stain. This moisturizing process only needs to be done once or twice a year and never more frequently. Be careful when using any leather cleaning products as the may strip way the color of your custom stained leather pockets.

Fabrics

To prevent overall soil, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended. Spot clean, using mild water-free solvent or dry cleaning product. Clean only in a well-ventilated room and avoid any product containing Carbon Tetrachloride or other toxic materials. Pretest small area of pool table collection or home bar fabric before proceeding. Cleaning by a professional furniture cleaning service only is recommended.

Metal

Cleaning of all metal stools, home bars, and wine furniture wine racks should be done with care. Please read cleaning product carefully to ensure that no corrosive or abrasive chemicals are used. Also make sure to use non-abrasive wiping agents to prevent scratching to the metal surface and finish. All metal furniture should be dusted on a regular basis. Prolonged exposure to excessive liquid and water can also be damaging the metal parts of your pool table collection furniture so make sure to quickly clean up any spills.
